Somerset House Skate Event – London

By Oscar

Tuesday 11th December at 8pm sees a jointly organised event between several of the skate London communities for the second annual Somerset House Ice Rink in the spectacular setting of the Courtyard..

Around 25 skaters are confirmed as attending, so if you want to join them book online or by telephone (details below) for the 8pm slot.

The ice rink, with specially designed viewing areas and rinkside cafe, will be open for six weeks from Wednesday 5 December.

The rink will be able to accommodate 2,000 skaters a day, with special group bookings for children’s parties, skating lessons and ice guides to accompany inexperienced skaters. In the evening the rink will be illuminated with flaming torches and special architectural lighting will light the classical facades around the Courtyard.

A magnificent 40ft high Christmas tree will be transported from Sweden to complement the ice rink. The tree is a gift from the City of Gothenberg, the birthplace of Sir William Chambers, the architect of Somerset House.

Somerset House Ice Rink is sponsored by The Wallpaper Group, with additional support from the R & S Cohen Foundation. The Swedish spruce Christmas tree is sponsored by the paper brands Munken and Arctic. Ice skates generously donated by Bauer.
